This map holds more than 190,000 miles of Penelope's life — and every one of those miles has a story behind it.

Her journey started at just nine weeks old, with the 1,010-mile journey that brought her home to me. That was mile one of an adventure neither of us could have imagined.

Since then, we've kept track of the miles that take us out into the world. When we leave home on one of our extended adventures, every mile counts until we return. When we're home, everyday driving doesn't count — a road trip has to take us more than 60 miles one-way to become part of Penelope's adventure miles.

The pins are earned the same way. My feet and Penelope's paws have to touch the ground. We don't count a place because we drove through it. We count it because we stopped. We explored it. We were there.

Some pins mark places everyone knows. Others are little towns, back roads and hidden places we never expected to find. But every one of them represents a moment in our life together.
